GMA 60th Anniversary Celebration

On Friday May 2^nd the Gadsden Museum of Art will continue its 60^th anniversary celebration. The museum will be hosting several new artists along with a glass blowing demonstration and sidewalk chalk displays. The new exhibitions will feature Wade MacDonald and Ann Herbert, Bethany Moody, Jennifer Wallace Fields, Stacy Tabb, and local student artwork by the True Colors Arts Program.

Wade McDonald and Ann Herbert’s joint exhibition, “A Homily for the Pink Moon,” combines abstract paintings with contemporary architecture and clay sculptures.

Jennifer Wallace Fields, a visual artist and educator will be exhibiting her new body of work entitled “2 Cool 2 B 4gotten”. Fields is also the host of the APT show “Monograph,” which showcases various artists and artist venues throughout Alabama.

Bethany Moody is an educator and interdisciplinary artist that processes locally-sourced, reclaimed materials with craft-based techniques including natural dyeing and soft sculpture which can be seen in her exhibit “Today’s Sale Color.”  North Alabama artist Stacy Tabb studied graphic design, drawing and printmaking in college. Her exhibit, “You Are What You Eat,” is comprised of multiple species of creatures, each depicted with their primary diet.

True Colors Arts Program was established in 2023 by The Etowah County Board of Education as a means of getting Art programming into schools that are often overlooked. Focusing on mental health and well-being, the program consists of students from Gaston High School, West End Elementary, and West End High School.

Muffinjaw Designs of Mobile, Alabama will be providing a glass blowing demonstration outside of our main entrance for everyone that is out celebrating First Friday along with chalk drawing by the JSU Art Department and the museum’s own after school program with their teacher Kayla Allen.

Light refreshments will be served and public restrooms are available for all First Friday visitors.
