The Great AL 650 is the Biggest, Longest and Toughest Canoe, Paddle Board, & Kayak Race in the U.S.!! This annual epic adventure takes racers along the core section of the Alabama Scenic River Trail—at 650 miles, it’s the longest river trail in a single state. Since the inaugural race of 2019, these athletes have earned worldwide recognition for their strength, endurance, and skill. This year, we're welcoming two amazing female SUP racers, Veronica Sosa and Lindsey Tilton, who are making history as the first women to attempt the 650-mile challenge on a standup paddleboard.
If you rent kayaks or canoes, this is a great environment for you to promote your business. Invite your kayak, canoe and SUP clubs and friends. Let's let them know Greater Gadsden is supporting them!

About the Alabama Scenic River Trail: The Coosa River is part of the Alabama Scenic River Trail and was founded by Fred Couch, an avid paddler, in 2008 after wanting to bring further attention to Alabama waterways. The original trail allows you to travel from the Alabama-Georgia Stateline to the Gulf. At the time, the original 650 miles qualified the Alabama Scenic River trail as the longest paddling trail in a single state. Our organization has grown to cover more than 6,000+ miles of some of the nation’s most environmentally important and diverse paddling.
