Hike on the Black Creek Trail

This will be about a 3.5 mile hike on the Black Creek Walking Trail in Gadsden. The hike will begin at the upper trailhead located next to the Chapel at Noccalula Falls Park and will end at the lower trailhead located at the intersection of Black Creek Road and Tuscaloosa Avenue in Gadsden.

Plans are to meet at the Etowah County Rescue Squad at 9:00 am and leave a car there for a return shuttle (it's located at 505 Black Creek Road which is across the street from the lower trailhead) and then head to the park trailhead to begin the hike. Those preferring a longer distance are welcome to meet at the upper trailhead and hike to the end of the trail and then back up to the park for a 7 mile in and out hike. Features along the trail include the falls, scenic views of the gorge from overlooks, cabins, an optional short side hike to a suspended bring over the creek, the creek itself, and a marker commemorating the spot where Emma Sansom assisted Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and his troops in crossing the creek during the Civil War. There are also numerous side loop trails that can be taken down into the gorge and other surrounding areas within the park. Pending group interest, an optional stop for lunch at a local restaurant is planned following the hike.
