Pre-Steam Kids – Plant Power

A hands-on STEAM lesson that introduces young learners to the important relationship between plants and animals. Through exploration, play, and creative activities, children discover which animals eat plants (herbivores), how these animals are specially designed to digest plant foods, and why plants are essential for the survival of many living creatures. Students will investigate real leaves, flowers, and natural materials, use magnifying tools, and create a take-home plant suncatcher to reinforce learning. They will model animal teeth adaptations, compare herbivores and carnivores, and discuss how to keep habitats healthy without harmful chemicals. The lesson includes nature-based group games, songs, and guided discussion to build vocabulary, curiosity, and environmental awareness.
